Get rid of most of the subframe, we only need the suspension mounts
Create the floor pan
Short isn't it
Week 2Then we create the top of the body work
And set the width, by ensuring that the steering wheel fits inside
Week 3Now we need to create some suspension mounts
And yes it is upside down for this bit, and in the background you can see the engine
Week 4Once the rear axle is complete I had to work out what to do with the rear suspension
Drop down axle for a better roll angle. And the battery has to fit in there somewhere
Week 5The steering is now on and the front suspension has been completed, but there is still a lot to do
Week 6I have just fitted 1 of only 2 components I didn't make myselfThe exhaust is a work of art going through the gap between the suspension and the steering column
Week 7The steering wheel is finaly mounted and the body is now starting to take shape
Week 8Some would say the most important bit, fitting the roll cage. And if you look closely you can see the gear change but it is just a screwdriver at this stage
In order to get this ready for the first race, there were a lot of late nights
Week 9Finally a rolling chassis, next step is some undercoat
This is the first photo where you get a clear view of the pedals, and there are 4. Accelerator; Front Brake; Clutch; Rear Brake
Ready for the top coat
Bright Red, what other colour is there for a race car
Another late night ahead as the wiring goes in. You can see the battery under the roll cage and the gear stick is now attached
All done and ready to show off to my family
Mum and Dad's drive was plenty big enough for a quick spin
I though I was ready for tomorrows race, but the water pump had other ideas. I know what I am doing tonight
9 weeks from a rusty subframe in a field to 1st race
Worth every minute and all nighter that it took to get it here
